STYLE—FORMATTING—LAYOUT

Why do you need your own style sheet when your tech editor checks all that for you?

First, your own style sheet will make your initial pattern writing much easier. You will have a basic template for installing the pattern details each time you create a new pattern.

Second, a style sheet will provide consistency for both you and your crafter.

Third, employing a style sheet developed along industry standards assures your patterns will look professional.

Fourth, using a style sheet could reduce errors and decrease editing time possibly saving you money.

Fifth, having your own style sheet enables your tech editor to edit your pattern based on your specific guidelines so that you both know what to expect in the finished results.

As a designer, do you want to spend hours reviewing published patterns in order to decide how your own pattern should be formatted? Does your pattern layout help or hinder your maker? Is your style consistent? Should you use brackets or astericks** to indicate repeats? Will you give all measurements in both inches and centimeters? Which abbreviations will you need; and, will you use uppercase or lowercase abbreviations? Will you locate your stitch pattern instructions before the body of your pattern or after?

Focus your time on designing and allow me to develop a system of style, formatting, and layout that consistently meets your needs. I will work closely with you to make the right decisions for your unique pattern-writing style.
